Data Set Time Stamp?

Hi - Few questions related to the the sample data set (http://en.openei.org/community/files/driving.txt):

1) There isn't a time stamp associated with each of the data elements, can we assume / create a time stamp (assumes future subscription to data set would allow us to capture this info from data stream or device)?

2) Can we assume that we can modify data set so we have multiple data sets to work with during development phase?

Thanks again,

Starting with your second question, you are definitely encouraged to modify the sample vehicle data so that you can have multiple data sets to work with for your Ideation. Therefore, going back to your first question, you are welcome to assume and create additional time stamps.

Finally, regarding a future subscription to allow for a more direct data stream, it is reasonable to assume that such connections will be simulated for the Challenge. However, the market may also benefit from additional solutions to marry the hardware with new software/cloud-hosted products.

A time stamp isn't normally associated with the data from the vehicle but would be something a smartphone or other device could easily add. For privacy concerns, many people might choose to not record the date and time.

Since you may wish to record date and time in your application, or even location, please feel free to modify the data to include what you need. If you want a simple time stamp, you could assume a fixed sample rate since the sample data isn't event-driven.

It is possible that future data sets will also include event-driven data, such as brakes applied, that would be most useful with a unique time stamp.
